Scones & Jam

Scone (as in phone) or Scone (as in gone)?

Scone (as in gone) for me, but anyway... A few weeks ago, a friend of mine popped by for dinner.  She had been visitng family and "living off the land" in the country over the weekend and bought me back a beautiful jar of homemade blackberry jam.  They had pulled down a heap of bushes on the property and my friend's task, after getting one too many thornes in her fingers, was to pick out all the perfect little blackberries for jam making.

I had to make a batch of warm scones to go with the jam and it was delicious.  I adapted a version of Annabel Langbein's cheese scone recipe.  Very fun and super easy to make!

Vintage Stamps

We are very passionate, and possibly even a little obsessed, with stationery! Even more so after finding these vintage stamps for postage by Saint Gertrude - we think no suite would be truly complete without these, which add instant whimsy and style to your envelopes.

Victorian Nursing Chair

This gorgeous Victorian Nursing Chair belonged to our Dad's grandmother and dates back to around the 1880s.  Thanks to our Dad's restoration talents, this beautiful chair has finally been brought back to all it's glory in this macro suede fabric in a gorgeous mauve colour.

We are in love with the beautiful curved shape and turned detailings on the foot work, together with the lavender tones.

Happy Friday everyone, we hope you have a lovely weekend

Paris in Pink

Paris, where no other city evokes an image of romance.  We have drawn this week's mood montage from Parisian inspiration and show how you can incorporate soft petal tones and elements of style into your wedding day.  We love the colour palette of blush and dusky pinks, ivory and midnight blues teamed with beautiful poppies.

Happy Pancake Day

Ricotta and Lemon Curd Pancakes with Raspberries

Today marks the preceding day of Lent.  Traditionally known as Pancake Day, its history dates back to more than 500 years ago.  Pancakes were a way to use up rich foodstuffs such as eggs, milk and sugar before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.

Lovely Lamps

We picked this pair of second hand antique lamps up for $19 on eBay - amazing what a lick of glossy gold spray paint does. Very happy with how they have turned out.

Peanut Butter Cookies

I'll be honest, I'm a bit of a nutter when it comes to peanut butter - in fact, I'm one of those people that eat it with a spoon straight out of the jar! Lately, I have been craving cookies, which is why I had to make these delicious Peanut Butter Cookies. They had a lovely crispiness on the outside and a chewy middle, it was everything thing you'd want in a cookie.

Enjoy!

A Sweet Stop

Birwoods Sweet Shop

In keeping with our "sweet" theme we stopped at a special little store in Havelock North. The Birwoods Sweet Shop is a colonial cottage built from reclaimed materials and is nestled amongst the countryside. Every wall displays a marvel of sweets ready to be handpicked and it even has a little cash register that goes "ding". It was a beautiful experience.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE! x

The Sweetest Baby

Last Spring we threw our dear friend a baby shower. It was a beautiful day, she looked gorgeous, was showered with beautiful baby gifts and smiled from ear to ear throughout the whole day.We decided to go with a green & white polka dot, sweet baby theme, as the baby was a surprise. Here are a few pictures we wanted to share from the day – favourite parts being the dessert feature table, the makeshift clothesline, which everyone hung their "wishes for baby" notes on with little wooden pegs – including the dad-to-be (tears!). A very special day for a very special lady

Strawberry Fields Forever

Last year I made a summer "to-do" list and nothing says summer more than strawberry picking. I can't actually remember the last time I went to a P.Y.O orchard, but I know I'll be making sure I get to one every summer season. I found an organic farm just outside of Melbourne, Ladybird Organics and had an amazing time picking and sampling the sweetest strawberries. Making home-made jam was, not only great fun, but satisfying too. I adapted this recipe, which incorporates a slight twist adding rosemary and balsamic vinegar. I loved using berries whole and the jam is absolutely delicious. I enjoyed wrapping each jar up in gingham and twine and giving it to family for Christmas presents.

Salamanca Market

During a trip to Hobart a few weeks back, I was lucky enough to visit the wonderfully bustling Salamanca Markets, which were celebrating their 40th anniversary. I love all their farm-fresh produce, handmade crafts and especially home-made treats. Here are a few of my favourite pictures from the day.

The Sewing Table

We found this little gem sitting on the road-side in Matakana. We used the colour "Moby" from Resene and are thrilled with the result.

Handmade Picnic

We love to picnic.

A weekend away from the city with great food, company and laughter does wonders!

Canary Yellow Chair

We have been busy restoring furniture! We came across this 1950s styled chair which we purchased for $27 and thought a bright yellow velvet was just what it needed for a lift!

We love to incorporate bright accents into our homes through furniture and decorative elements.
